Question

Was pulling a hill yesterday and remembered back to when I was a kid with a single speed bike, I use to come off the seat to pedal. Would get more weight, i.e. power to the wheels that way. Tried that on my Schwinn Trailways hybrid and immediately felt unsteady. Left me with the impression my body weight was too far forward for the bike. Are today's frame's that much shorter then the old American bikes use to be? Could also be due to my age and not having pedaled that way for 50 years.

Was experimenting with a different position to see what kind of results I'd get without downshifting. Hill is 1.1 miles long and the last .2 mile gets steeper. Was within three gears of being in the lowest gear. Have been trying to build up to not having to down shift too much.

Still better to spin your way up than mash. Use you lungs, and save your legs for sprints.
