A beginner thinks in terms of how to gain exerience...
The exprienced thinks in terms of how to begin.

The beginner "I just crashed. I don't know why but the bike suddenly went flying and I went rolling down the pavement."

The experience rider always has a reason.

"There I was on a down hill hitting about 25 without working very hard. Just as I touched the front brake, the front tire hit a bump and blew out the front tire, just as I was getting set up to make a fairly sharp turn at speed. Needless to say max performance in a turn is very different from an inflated front tire and a flat front tire. In a blink of an eye both me and the bike were rolling down the pavement, just not on the wheels. Only that dork disk seemed to be totally unaffected."

Now any experienced rider providing that story knows they are not under oath so its truthfulness may or may not be something you could count on. Put them under oath and its usually "I crashed." They may know why, but the experienced rider has better sense than to tell that story.

You're no longer a beginnger when you forget everything and just ride for the hell of it. The way riding was meant to be.

It's a good question. I might have crossed an early line.
The bike was fun today. I toured northeast of home where it's hilly for 9.4 miles with a new top speed of 28.3 MPH on the way home. But the fun was later when a huge Tom Turkey wandered down my street. He caught my eye as he walked into the yard across the street. I grabbed the camera, ran out and got a single poor shot. He was moving so I stuffed the camera in the under seat bag & zipped away.
Wow, I feel the difference after riding for a month. Zipping was a snap knowing it was a short ride. Tom was flushed out on the next block before I had the camera ready. He flew half way up the hill and veered left, I was off. I zoomed up looking left, around to the next block but couldn't find it. The fun was feeling the new strength in my legs, balance & comfort in handling. Riding was as easy as when I was a kid. Well almost, lol.

You stop being a beginner when you figure out how to change that in your account profile,

To have a bunch of people operating like a machine makes cycling special from other sports.
Well put for those into such things, but what if you have zero interest in club rides? I like picking my own pace and stopping wherever I feel like it, to say nothing of choosing my own route. Mind you, I have nothing against club riders, I just don't see where I'd enjoy joining them. Maybe that's just a sign of my noob-ness, though ;-)
