Hi Froze,
I do not own a cell phone. 3 weeks out of 4, my wife is out of state Monday thru Friday. So, I would not be calling her for help. I tend to take care of my own problems, if I have to walk, well I did it to myself. Most of the time I ride by myself, and as the crow flies, I'm seldom more that 5 miles from home. For most of my life, I've tied my shoes.
ALL,
It is time for the wife / mommy comments to end. Most of you are older than seven, act like it.

You tied your OWN shoes most of your life? With velcro todays kids don't know how to tie shoes anymore...it's a lost art!
If your only riding 5 miles then that's a short walk. But when you start riding more then that and eventually going a lot further, tools and knowing some basic mechanical knowledge of bikes will go a long way from keeping you facing a taunting walk.
See, my statements didn't even apply to you, because you are at least like me in the regards that you fix you own stuff so you don't need to call for help.

In all honesty up till last year in all the years I have ridden a bike never had any mechanical mishaps or have blown a tube for that matter. Never carried a repair kit though this year I plan on taking my small adjustable wrench a small pair of vise grips my Swiss Army knife never leaves my side bike or walking. For repair I got an extra tube now also a pattch kit and a set of tire levers. Just need to get a small pump now. But I won't leave without a way to fix a flat again lucky for me when my tire got a flat I was only a few feet from home go figure.

Honey, it's just a bicycle. and i REALLY need it to excercise, and to ride it to work.(hehe)
Someday when I grow up I will probably lose interest in toys with wheels, but until then..

I've been lucky too. I have yet to use my mini tools on my bikes since I bought them back about 18 years ago! But I still carry them, though I have used them on other peoples bikes and even cars. But since I like to ride older bikes (though have a couple of newer ones) doing a repair on the road is just a matter of time, and when that time arrives I don't want to be walking back home. Same with the spare tire, never used it, but it's there just in case. I have used tools and supplies for my flats of course that do occur.
Like I said before, I'm probably overdoing it a little, but I don't want to walk 50 miles or more either!

Hi folks,
My tools came itno the LBS this week. I decided that I wanted a seat bag to carry them in. I found an inexpensive one that I thought would work and showed it to my wife. She called it a Man Purse! That's when the fight started!

Bob you lost too didn't you. Letting a "man purse" comment go is far cheaper than the alternative. lol You guys are never breaking down because I am having all the problems. Yes its weird stuff that would be no way to predict. Ran over a nail a while back = flat at night and close enough to home to walk it home and change it in the morning. Chain has come off twice. Once the lower limit was off just enough to lose it, and the other I really don't have an explanation other than possibly a too aggressive shift. Took it in for a routine adjustment and the mechanic adjusted the brakes but didn't tighten the cable down tight. It worked long enough to get me going at a pretty good clip, before the cable slipped and I had no rear brakes. Honest mistake, I fixed on the spot. Guess I am just lucky eh??

Mark,
I didn't loose it, well, maybe a little. I did quitely put the bag (man purse) back on the rack. I may have been a quite on the way home. I may hang the tools off the seat in a pair of matching holely socks.
I'm preparing for the worst, a Man Purse under the Christmas Tree. "Oh! Thank you Dear. How did you know that was really the one that I wanted?"

HEEHAW let the fun begin. Do you think you could like, you know, sneak some video of the big fight and post it here?
I'm trying to figure out how a seat bag looks like a man purse, you don't even carry it on your person. Is it a leather bag? A Gucci maybe?

Like that would really be a bad thing against a nice leather saddle. Now if it is Gucci that would be a bad thing LOL
