That bit of tape belongs there. It is on all road brakes to allow the caliper to close freely
while under load. Think of it as a flat bearing surface. The two surfaces don't touch when the
    brake is no...

A toothpick and a Q-Tip solved your problem. For some reason I cant wrap my mind around that
removing something that your brake spring could not overcome itself.I think it was more just
    all the gunk b...

It may just be dirt/dust or grime on the calipers. I used a toothpick to scrape any out, then
clean it with a q-tip before lubing it. It seems to open all the way. The front is a little
    tougher, but I...

IT must be binding. I haven't bothered with the front yet since I don't have brakes to put on
them, but I was checking the back ones, and the cable is causing slack where it runs parallel
    to the cross...

The new pads are more than likely thicker than you old pads were when new. You need to
disconnect the cable at the clamping bolt and let more cable slack out. Seeing as you had to
    flip the pad around ...

I just replace the brake pads and it has been one nightmare after another. First, I came to
find that the Kool Stops I got won't fit up front because my fork is too tight. For a VERY
    temporary fix, I ...

  • Posted in thread: anyone have a SEMI-compact frame? on 12-31-2013 at 01:11 AM
My LBS has fit me to all of my bikes, not just because of my height. An option would be to get
measured, ask the shop about frame size and top tube length, and try to find a good quality
    used frame so...

The thing is, I think you are right, merlincustom, that it would be pretty much the same as my
current bike. I was hoping that it would be a little longer. With my height, I really would be
    best suite...

I was mildly thinking of getting a new bike since my current one is getting to the point where
I will need to start replacing the costlier components, and with bikesdirect, where I got it,
    it is prett...

  • Posted in thread: what are my chances my tire will hold out... on 11-15-2013 at 12:54 AM
Is your head worth more than a tire? Don't answer; it's a rhetorical question. That was my
answer when I read your title line. It's my answer after reading the whole post. What's with
    putting them awa...
