Just wondering what your guyses thoughts were on a "budget" road/commuting bike. I have about 800$ to spend and I need something that would be good to go to and from work (2 miles approx) every day. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have a trek 1000 road bike (from 2004) that I love. It was the lowest end from, as I was coming from mtn bikes and was not sure if I would spend much time on the road.

It does not have anything fancy, but it has a decent frame that can be upgraded as desired. It does not have a carbon fork stock either... I figure I will appreciate it more if I ever get one!

I run it with spd pedals on both my bikes, as I find those shoes better for commuting and errands.

I would look for one of the 1000 series on craigslist etc.

But get yourself sized properly for your bike. It is worth it.

Hit up Ebay or Craiglist and see whats available in your area. $800 is a good price point for a good used bike. If you went new, you would be looking at the baseline models of most manufacturers.
