Chamois cream. Stay hydrated, cliff bars, apricots, cytomax. How long have you been riding previously? Make sure you drink plenty of water during the week as well so you are adequately hydrated. Sunscreen too!
Thanks Smiley. I'm loading up on cliff bars energy drinks and water. All my previos rides were a few hours just screwin around town.
On our 50-60 mile rides we just have a good breakfast-for me that is protein, like ham and cheese, and maybe egg on a tortilla. For others it is oatmeal. I usually drink 2 bottles of cytomax, and 2 of water. Then maybe a cliff bar. When we get home, I need protein! A good hamburger does me fine. :D Have fun!
It's a fun ride. Are you taking the Frontage road or back roads?
Apricots are a good snack with potassium, easier than eating bananas in your shirt pocket.
Bananas are bad, but apricots have a bit too much fiber for some folks. They can stir things into action.

And the sulphur in dried apricots can be bad.

It's always best to experiment with new foods when you're not riding.
Really? Interesting. A lot of the members on our cycling team use the apricots on long rides, but of course they have been riding for several years, and knows what works for them.
I have a sulphur allergy, but they're also a gentle laxative for a lot of people.
Bummer. Good point about not doing food you are familiar with! I know what my body is used to, and have forgotten others may just be starting out.

Nothing like the squirts on his first long ride...
HA!! That's funny...

OH, you might wanna take some wet wipes, kleenex, chapstick, and $. For emergencies.;)
Dean I'm taking back roads. Frontage on 35 heading south would be terrible. I think I can stay away from 35 but down here if your not on a major road your lost. Texas is big.

Good call Hack, ESPECIALLY the not experimenting with new food/equipment etc on a big event...always best to try new stuff during training, much safer and avoids a lot of potential problems when you least want them...

So no to the Apricots then. What about gels? Anybody have a url for gels? I hear about them.
If you have your sports drinks, water, and eat a proper breakfast you should be fine.
I'm not to worried about it. I've just never gone this far.

Go to your LBS and ask them what they have that's good. Don't ask at the health food store - they're freaks. ;)
