Chamois cream. Stay hydrated, cliff bars, apricots, cytomax. How long have you been riding previously? Make sure you drink plenty of water during the week as well so you are adequately hydrated. Sunscreen too!
Nothing like the squirts on his first long ride...Bummer. Good point about not doing food you are familiar with! I know what my body is used to, and have forgotten others may just be starting out.
Good call Hack, ESPECIALLY the not experimenting with new food/equipment etc on a big event...always best to try new stuff during training, much safer and avoids a lot of potential problems when you least want them...Bananas are bad, but apricots have a bit too much fiber for some folks. They can stir things into action.
And the sulphur in dried apricots can be bad.
It's always best to experiment with new foods when you're not riding.
Go to your LBS and ask them what they have that's good. Don't ask at the health food store - they're freaks. So no to the Apricots then. What about gels? Anybody have a url for gels? I hear about them.
