EUGENE, Ore. -- In the coming new year, new bicycles will be a little more expensive.
Oregon's transportation package includes a $15 excise tax on on bikes sold for $200 or more with wheels at least 26 inches, like those sold at Paul's Bicycle Way of Life.
I wonder how many years it will take to earn $2 million+ they mention.
That's 133,000+ bikes sold.
If they're selling that many in Oregon, maybe I need to open a shop there lol.
That = discriminatory state tax. Motorists should also be paying similar tax to fund bike lanes if this is their reasoning for it because motorists benefit from bikes being in bike lanes vs sharing the roadway. There should be a rugby tax and also a tax for having other people fill your car with gas too. Quack quack, go ducks! Ya know, they say Austin is weird but I say Oregon is weirder, lol.......not that weird is always a bad thing.
Revenue from the tax goes to the Connect Oregon Fund which provides grants for bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects statewide.
Based on the above quote from the article, I believe a tax should also be imposed on shoes.
