down for anyone else? had a thread bookmarked i wanted to read but can't.
They don't have the most stable server to begin with, but I understand this is probably a network issue. It's been most of the past 24 hours.
I saw some one on twitter talking about it.
I had read previously that it was a network issue, but coming at the exact same time as their site update, it's a major timing fail.
I heard they spilled beer on the servers...
/this is a lie.
I would think being owned by such a huge Corporation like Internet Brands they would have any down time at all.
With all the sites I go to, I've found that the bigger a forum gets, the more trouble it has. The little guys usually don't have a lot of down time, or stupid whiny pissing contests that wreak havoc on the way the forum works.
You're just not familiar with their business model then.
I hope this isn't how they make their living.
Sounds about right...
They bought the site for the eyeballs, nothing more. I doubt they have any interest in putting any money into it.
It is truly amazing how big business tends to be like a law of physics.
You have your fairly cool companies like Costco, and a vast majority of the alternative.
According to their own IT staff, the forums were the subject of a cyber attack. They must have upset someone.
Well BikeForums.net is owned by Internet Brands who also owns vBulletin and they did some pricing stuff recently that seems to have upset a lot of their customers. Don't know the full details though.
Rule number 1 - do not piss off the geeks.
Posting here everyday and being an avid cyclist I feel I can tell pretty well what fellow cyclists want in new features at their bike community. I wonder how well such a huge Corporation like Internet Brands will do with their communities not having true enthusiasts running them. Maybe they are so big they that no one cares who owns them since they show up #1 in Google for most terms.
When you're the WalMart of web traffic, (relying on volume, not quality) you can't afford to do things like throw big bucks at things like fixing broken databases, or hiring qualified people to be your "Community leaders". In their 2-1/2 years of owning the site, they've never managed to put a cyclist between the admin and the parent company.
The first one was cool, and we even talked about getting him a deal on a bike, but he left. The last one was so grossly incompetent, she should have been a politician. Apparently, she was not aware that while she clocked out Friday afternoon, the site ran 24/7, which includes weekends. And her main concern was covering her own ass, rather than contributing any worthwhile guidance to the site. She probably got fired.
It's up now. There is a thread in the bikeforums.net joke section for Bicycling Guitarist jokes
Looks like it's down again.
Bummer for their members.
