Don't you feel sort of cracked out when you are all hopped up on energy drinks? I can't stand the jittery, shaky feeling that I get from just one!
I don't know about long term effects but it would probably be in your best interest to do a little research on that topic.

Do you crash hard at the end of the day from them?

Energy Drinks are ok in moderation, you CAN develop a chemical dependency to them meaning and addiction. At 2-3 a day, you are heavily 'medicated' by it and I bet you really feel it when you don't have it in your system. Especially now that they found cocaine in Red Bull (pulled it off the market in Asia and most of Europe; strangely nothing has been done in America yet).

FRS Energy is where its at if you want a good energy drink; most others are poison. Lance Armstrong endorses and promotes for them as well, they are more natural and taste much better.

Does anyone drink that Venom stuff or the little 5 hour energy bottles?

It still seems like I crash even when I don't use the energy
The 5 hour energy is a pretty good one. It is not really bad for your either and doesn't have that "crash" effect like most do. I recommend it but as with any energy supplement, take it in moderation. A lot of the energy drinks are tons of sugar, carbs, calories, etc in them so i would def. do some research before you keep or start doing 2-3 a day, even with some exercise.

What about all the other ingredients besides caffeine said to give you energy, has anyone isolated, say... ginseng or one of the others like guarine or whatever is in it and done only that alone?

I guess you would have to have the supplement pills to do that or see the effects since most energy drinks and pills have a plethora of ingredients that are said to enhance energy.

I was thinking maybe one of the other ingredients may give you energy without the crash that caffeine does.

Guarana seems to be pretty good from what I've experienced (Bawls energy sodas, taste like Sprite Remix, made with guarana, and can keep me up through the night), and isn't really detrimental on the body.

Also, on the whole cocaine in Red Bull thing, I think it was just the extract of the Coca plant. It's in a lot of sodas even, case in point: Coca Cola. Where do you think they get their name?

I was more worried with Red Bull about the Ephedra (sp?). That stuff was really bad, but I think they got rid of it. It was used to forcibly speed up the heart rate, if I remember correctly, but I'm not fully sure.

unrefined natural food

There is an amazing amount of energy in living vegetation. I figured out my need for energy drinks was due to the poor quality of the foods I was eating. I have come a long way with my diet slowly evolving trying different foods figuring out what makes me feel good. Some things I eat to help with sustained energy are raw organic walnuts, cashews, pecans, hazelnuts, brazil nuts. almonds, peanut butter, almond butter and most times I eat one in combination with raisins an apple or a banana I take a kelp supplement for the thyroid because nuts deplete iodine.

cheers
