I got to wondering, how much does a frame REALLY matter to the overall bike experience? I'm wondering this cause it seems like my frame is the weakest link of all my components...and the cheapest!

Basically, I'm wondering if there would be a huge difference in ride quality, going from an 80s bianchi steel frame to say, a more modern tig welded steel bianchi frame?

    What do you guys think?

Road or MTB?? Either way the frame will make a huge difference in the way the bike feels and rides. Geometry, layout, all of that will have a dramatic affect on the handling and riding characteristics. HTH!!

Exactly, geometry is key in both road and mountain. Also the way a "good" frame is constructed is superior to the construction of a not as well built frame.

A huge difference to me as well. Going from a 70's all steel road bike to a sleek and lightweight frame has made a huge difference.
