Anyone see this article? Twist a Pen, Open a Lock Pretty much can open the D style locks with a BIC pen.
Don't they use that same type of circular shaped lock on laundry room washing machines and coke machine change returns? If you had a pair of those mega giant bolt cutters with 2 foot long handles I bet you could cut through any type of bike lock, what about someone carrying a blowtorch? Has anyone ever "hammer tested" any of these locks with a hammer?
thanks thanks for the info on that pen lock thing.but it a sad thing, cause bikes and their locks are still like anything else.if they want it bad enough, there going to get it.happiness is "NOT" coming back to your "locked" missing bike!! ride on
From what I remember that was from a while back and they have supposedly made some changes in the locks to counteract the bic pen lock pick. The thing I have been hearing more about but mostly from full time thieves now is the battery powered grinders with cut-off wheels. I actually thought of it the other day at work when we had to cut some big Master locks off of a piece of electrical gear. We had to go buy the grinder (Dewalt 18 volt) and some cut off wheels. We cut through 3 locks in less than a minute and a half with the charge that the battery had when we bought it. I would say no bike lock is safe from a determined thief. It only keeps the opportunist thief from snagging your bike.
+1, They refitted those locks with a different key system. You are right Grape ape, the lock will not protect your bike. It is only a deterrent for people who might mistake it for their own. I personally sleep with my roadbike
There was a video on the Internet showing what a guy could get away with. At one point he took a grinder and cut the lock in front of everyone on the street. No one said anything.
I saw that, heck not a word most people didn't even look twice just walked on like they never saw anything. Scary when you think about it.
i refused to move into my girls friends house to start a new life with her cause she refused to let me keep my bikes inside the house.she insisted i build a "shed" so they could stay there.we went back and forth and back and forth and she would not give in!! i dumped her like a turd from a tall cow's ass!! she just woulden't get it!!!...true story!!...ride on..
Not so fast. That's an opportunity! I see a green light to build a detached bike shop/man cave. Not so bad eh?
