Here's a product I first saw at Interbike 2009. After nearly two years of waiting (impatiently) they are starting to become available in the US. Read the release below to find out more about the Maya Cycle's clever design and innovative features, and look for a review either later this year, or next spring.

MAYA CYCLE, A REVOLUTIONARY SINGLE WHEEL BICYCLE TRAILER, DESIGNED WITH THE COMMUTING CYCLIST IN MIND!

Maya Cycle is the newest dual function bicycle trailer to the North American market with two features that differentiate it from all others: Maya Cycle’s handle bars rotate, converting the trailer into a wheelbarrow; and Maya Cycle’s kickstand holds the trailer and bicycle upright for easy parking and loading. Maya Cycle is sold with a free cargo bag and carries up to 66 lbs, but its best selling feature is the price of ONLY $279 USD or $289 CAD.

Finally available in North America via www.mayacycle.com and local bicycle retail stores.

With 100% quality control, Stamet Tech Inc. is excited to offer the world the most convenient and versatile accessory for traveling by bike.

Take the load off your back and let Maya Cycle carry the weight of your day!

Product Description:

Maya Cycle is a versatile single-wheel bicycle cargo trailer with a capacity of 66 lbs (30 kg) that easily converts into a wheelbarrow, allowing you to carry your cargo conveniently to where you want it. With its featured kick-stand, Maya Cycle will hold your bicycle standing upright for easy loading and unloading. Compatible with most bicycles using 26 inch wheels and larger, Maya Cycle quick-release (QR) or specially designed adaptors, allow you to easily attach or remove the trailer from the bicycle in seconds!

Maya Cycle’s single wheel follows directly in line with your bicycle tires and sustains a low centre of gravity, maneuvering easily around sharp turns and corners. With Maya Cycle’s unique patent pending design, you won’t find a better for your cargo transporting needs.

Company Description:
Stamet Tech Inc. was started in 2009 by Mechanical Engineer and designer of Maya Cycle, Mike Staniszewski; and his daughter business entrepreneur Marta Staniszewski. Stamet Tech Inc. distributes Maya Cycle, a patent pending bicycle cargo trailer, across North America via e-commerce (www.mayacycle.com). Mayacycle.com caters to both retailers and customers in B2B/B2C commerce. With Business-2-Business capability, retailers can register their stores and purchase the Maya Cycle bicycle trailer on-line, in bulk and at wholesale prices directly from Stamet Tech Inc. With this capability, the retail store and location is listed on the Maya Cycle website as a dealer, enabling interested Maya Cycle customers to search for retailers distributing Maya Cycle.

That is badass! I'm thinkin' more for doing trail work. We've been using BOB trailers to haul heavy gear like chainsaws to the work sites. I love the way it converts into a wheel barrow. That would be very helpful for moving large rocks around. I hope the 66lb capacity is conservative. I've hauled well over a ton in my half ton Chevy truck, so I figure that thing should be able to move a 130lb rock with not too much difficulty.

I was planning on doing a trailer comparison this year, but it's a lot of work. The logistics are difficult, as you usually only get 30 days to evaluate one, and I'd need a small army to thoroughly test a bunch of trailers at once. But this seems like one of the better designs. The handles make it 100 times more useful than so many other trailers. Plus I am sold on the single wheel after reading about my friend's adventures riding the Continental Divide.
