    N+1! Haro Mary SS Build

Friend of mine found a Haro Mary 16" 29'er frame on Craigslist for $125. Talked the guy down to $115.00 I even got it approved by the wife as part of my birthday present.

I don't have the frame bought but I will go to pick it up Friday hopefully. It looks similar to this guy.

Cool thing is you can change the derailleur hanger and run gears on this frame too.

Undecided weather to make it a hardtail or fully rigid. Friends got a new SR Suntour fork with lockouts never been used for a 29er. Also unsure of the components to put on her. I'm open to tons of suggestions. I think my friend has enough parts to make it a 3 speed if I want including wheels but the cockpit will have to be bought.

Also this being my first SS what gear / tooth ratio's do most of you prefer?

Im guessing that the chainring is a 104 BCD? If so then I would say 32/14 or 32/16 for trail riding

Well the bike i'm getting it's only the frame so I have to buy everything else. My friend here in town does have a 110 BCD Raceface 4 bolt that I might use but it's not the prettiest thing.

Are you sure its a 110? Most 110s are 5 bolt if I recall. Its probably a 4 bolt 104

It's been awhile it might be a 104. It's an older crankset.

Found a better pic of what the bike should look similar to when I get it built. I also picked up some Avid Elixer 5's for $99.00 on www.mtbr.com today off the Classifieds Section.

Thanks I'm gonna go pick up the frame Friday. I picked up a Surly 104 BCD Chainring yesterday for 20ish. Now I just gotta find a crankset and BB to mate it to.

    Bike parts add up.

Frame picked up, came with headset, seatpost clamp, derailleur hanger for gears, and the original seatpost. I also picked up some tires from him. Then I ran across town to pick up a Surly chainring.

So the list for tonight that I picked up was:

    1 - 2008 Haro Mary SS $125.00
    2 - Geax Saguaro Tire 29 x 2.2 $28 bux.
    1 - Surly Stainless Steel 104x32t Chainring

I convinced my local bike friend to take me around KC since one item was at one of his friends and I didn't want to make the deal alone. I put gas in his car and reimbursed him Turnpike fees. I enjoyed the company.

I cleaned the bike frame up with a Scotch Bright pad and all of the scuffs and grease came right off! I was impressed. The business side has a few more chips than I'd like but it's not noticeable from 10 or more feet away. The bikes really got an excellent finish on it for a 5 year old bike that was a commuter.

These tires are tubeless so I am going to be buying some rim strips and probably some Presta valves. My local bike friend is hooking me up with some WTB LaserDisc Trail SS wheels and a SunTour suspension fork with lockout that was a take off for 140ish. (Still gotta buy them) ...

As I may have said before I scored some Avid Elixer 5's that were take offs from another bike forum for $110.00 shipped. Then I ordered a RACE FACE DEUS XC HEADSET BLACK for $24.98, KALLOY UNO SPC-105 CARBON SEATPOST (31.6 / 350MM) for $24.98, and OURY MTN GRIPS (RED) for $8.98.

I think it's official my wife's gonna kill me!

    Pics :D :

True! I told her I'd build it slow though... Kinda feel guilty. However i've found some crazy stupid deals lately that I just couldn't let pass me by. Really hoping a nice set of spd's and 104bcd cranks mistakenly appear and I have the cash to buy them. I'd love to find some carbon cranks.

Just weighed the frame in at 5.8lbs with the seatpost clamp, headset, and eccentric bottom bracket installed. Not bad for a Cro-Mo steelie frame.

    The Brown Santa Came Today!

My Avid Elixr 5 brakes arrived today unscathed. They look magnificent actually!

$99+Shipping for $250+ hydro brakes yes please!

They came with 180mm and 160mm rotors and mounting hardware as well. Not a bad deal if I don't say so myself!

What pedals are you waiting on?

(Hint: Man pedals start with Crank and end with Brothers)

That's what he's waiting on. I've got Richey SPD's now. I'm debating buying CB's because i'd have to buy new cleats and the pedals on my 26'er would have to be replaced... :(
