Need Help!!!! Road Bike Rental in Los Angeles area!!!!

I'm drawing a blank on shop names. Wait, try Helen's Cycles on Lincoln, in Santa Monica/Venice. If they can't help you, they should be able to direct you to a shop that can.

I got a riding buddy that lives there now. I passed your question on to him. Hopefully he can help.

I have a couple of leads so far, but I appreciate any and all suggestions.

My buddy out there said to call Rock N Road. I looked at their website. They don't advertise rentals, but he still seemed to think they could help you out.

There was a great bike shop I checked out when I was in Cambria if your doing the tour of the coast line. Lots of people were but honestly some of those switchbacks with traffic as thick as it was didn't look safe on a bike. You have about 1' lane to ride in.

CBO? It's funny that their online stuff is so inexpensive, while the store is painfully overpriced. Did you eat at Mustache Pete's while you were there? The Cambria drill is lunch at Pete's get some wine and glasses at the Italian market, dinner at the Sow's Ear, then wine on Moonstone, watching the sunset. I forgot the name of that organic breakfast place, but Cambria was one of my favorite vacation spots.

No I won't be following the tour down from NorCal. I plan on getting some good rides in between LA and San Diego the beginning of the week, then catching the tour as it gets closer to the LA area. I am originally from the San Fernando Valley so I am scoring the free room and board with the parents. Aside from a bike rental and flight, it should be a relatively cheap trip.

I think we ate at Linn's IIRC. It was in a two story building with a huge counter for their famous pies.

Cambria was pretty damn nice. We stayed there to do the whole Hearst Castle tour.

I think doing a Big Sur ride would be fun but again those switchbacks with hardly no room and crazy drivers is pretty offputting. They rent RVs I guess and those RV drivers are insane.

So, when are you leaving? You gonna keep us updated (and jealous) while you're out there?

Care to follow-up, whyeyebike, just in case we're ever out that way and want to do the same? What shop did you rent from? Were you happy with them?

Ahhh yes, I can't believe I didn't follow up on this one. Well I ended up renting a scandium frame (Salsa Podio) with SRAM Rival all the way around. I got the bike from Topanga Creek Bicycles and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to rent in the LA area. They specialize in mountain bikes (seeing as they are in the middle of a state park known for its mountain biking) but they had a good selection of road bikes. I was actually going to use a BMC aluminum frame but opted for the scandium to try something new. I ended up really liking the bike and the Rival group was a joy to use. A lot different then my normal Shimano 105 and Ultegra, but good none the less.

If your ever in the LA area, and you need a place to rent either a road bike or mountain bike, remember Topanga Creek Bicycles. You can find them easy on the web, and they are real freindly group of guys. Highly recommend them.
