I am trying to decide which pedal to go with clipless/half & half/platform , I,m going to be riding with a group, they all have road bikes I have a Scott Sportster P6 hybrid, I am not sure about this but I assume pedals make a difference in speed please correct me if I'm wrong.
Can you also tell me if the dual sided (platform/SPD) is better than the dual sided SPD pedal?

No difference in speed. The big difference will be weight, and the quality of the bearings. The dual sided pedals are nice, but sort of a compromise, since they're trying to do two jobs, and won't excel at either.

The best SPD is the PD-M959 by Shimano. This has proved to be best on my 10 road bike builds.
    Worst IMHO is Look's system
