Pronation and bike shoes

I have always had a difficult time finding shoes, not just bike shoes, shoes in general. I have feet that are wide across the toes but average at the heel, rather severely pronated with flat arches.

I found a pair of running shoes recently that were designed for my problem and even came in an E width. Viola, knee pain = gone, ankle pain = gone, lower back pain = 50% better, all within a week.

I am picking up a pair of insoles that should give my daily walkers similar attributes and see if those work as well.

I wear Shimano SPD MTB shoes for 90% of my riding and I have always felt that something isn't quite right. My question is, can I use the same high-arch, pronation correcting insoles in my cycling shoes? I have seen that Specialized and others put out "fit kits" with in the shoe wedges or arch support insoles. Are they any different than the insoles made to correct the same problems in other shoes? I'd like to stay away from cleat wedges if possible as my cleats are barely recessed enough not to click when I walk now and I wear my shoes off the bike quite a bit on day trips or when commuting.

There's nothing special (no pun intended) about Specialized insoles. I know a lot of people use Superfeet for their athletic style shoes, golf shoes, cycling shoes, etc. Assuming that your existing shoe has room for the ortho insole, you should be fine. It's at least worth trying.

It's possible to use the same high-arch, pronation correcting insoles in your cycling shoes as you use in your daily walkers. However, it's important to keep in mind that the pressure points and stresses on your feet can be different when cycling compared to walking or running. The insoles made for cycling shoes can take into account these differences and be specifically designed to provide support and comfort for cycling. The fit kits that you mentioned are designed to provide customized support for the individual's foot and cycling position. These may include wedges or arch support insoles to optimize the rider's pedaling efficiency and comfort. If you're using insoles made for running or walking shoes in your cycling shoes and find that they work well, then it's fine to continue using them. But if you're experiencing discomfort or pain during your rides, it may be worth trying out cycling-specific insoles or a fit kit to see if they make a difference.
