I have a single speed road bike. Frame by Pure Fix Cycles (purefixcycles.com), wheelset by ZeroLite, a Serfas Rx seat, and custom modified bullhorn-cut noodle bars. I have a Gossamer 50t front chainring and a 16t freewheel. I get beef from fixie riders because it's not a fixed gear, and i get beef from road riders because it's not a full carbon road bike with a 10 speed cassette. I keep up well with my roadie roommate at an average mph of 23, but i'm shunned by both groups. Where do i fall? Roadie or fixie? Or did i unintentionally create my own classification of rider? How do you feel about it?

Tell them it's not a tandem bike, you're the only one riding it and kindly do not foist their sheepish mentality on you as you are free thinker who neither seeks nor needs the approval of a group.

Or you can tell them to simply go pound sand.
