Well lets see, I've broken my clavicle 2 or 3 times - racing motocross, I honestly can't remember, shattered my right elbow in a taboggan accident, fractured my right hip, again racing, and last but not least broke both my legs at the same time trying to be like spider man and burning a pole at work...28 ft straight down. It was just like road runner in the cartoon, knew it was coming and felt like it took a while to fall.

Anyway this past fall I decided to start running since I HATE riding in the cold. This proved to be a HUGE mistake. It has aggravated something in my right hip. ( also resulted in picking up the well abused MTB to ride in the colder weather)

First trip to the Doc resulted in a some meds and a trip to see a specialist for shock treatment( so if the Doc schedules you for EMG testing run, run very fast!) to check for nerve damage and that was no fun at all. Doc thought it might be arthritis setting in my joints from my past history. Got a nice script for Meloxicam. I hated taking the Meloxicam but I'm back to taking it again.

Went to see the Doc again yesterday since the pain has become pretty intense and has actually kept me from getting a good night sleep in a LONG time. SO this time I get hip x-rays and the Doc thinks it could actually be bursitis. At this point I'd be happy if that is all it is. They upped my dosage of the Meloxicam to the max of 15 mg and now I'm waiting to hear about the x-rays, checking for joint deterioration basically, and see what's next.

Very fortunately whatever this is it does not bother me at all when I ride.

I wasn't really sure exactingly what bursitis is so I looked it up http://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/guide/arthritis-bursitis

So there it is my old bones and joints ache and I'm not even 50 yet!

Time to go ride !!!

Bursitis was the big guy who was always trying to take Olive Oil from Popeye, was it?

Schiff Glucosamine and fish oil are good friends of mine.

On the bright side, at least you've been living your life not just safely cruising through it. Hope they can get you fixed enough for a good nights sleep.

One of the items on my bucket list is to die without ever breaking a bone. So far, so good. However, at the rate I'm going, I don't know if I'll make this one happen. Back in November, I had a collision with my wife's recumbent trike when she made a sudden U-turn in front of me. Landed on my back and was off the bike for a month. Now, I'm going to be off for around another month due to the shoulder and arm contusion from Saturday's near miss with a car. I don't know how much these old bones can take.

Have any of you tried the viagra/margarita cocktail?

I heard it takes care of aching joints and. . .
No, but I did try a marga-daquiri-screw-alotta-on the beach :D

This is entertaining!

BTW, I broke one arm and later broke a wrist before age 12. I liked adventure

Oh and a bicycle accident sent me to the hospital for a week then too. Geez, I haven't thought of that in ages.

Glucosamine chondroitin with MSM really works for many but not for everyone. Fish oil is a big help. I had an EMG test a few months back for a very slight nerve impingement in my elbow. I was told it is uncomfortable. It was uncomfortable, like being tazered a couple of dozen times is uncomfortable. Good luck and be careful out there.

I can knock on wood. At 66, I have never had a broken bone in my life but damn am I prone to bruising due to the medicine I am taking for my leukemia. And it takes forever to heal and usually leaves some type of scar. My legs are full of bruising and small scars from hitting or scraping them against the pedals. And road-rash .... that's a whole different story.

Rola - I might be the sole chiropractor on this site - but I highly recommend you see a good chiro in your area - emphasis really good - if you message me I can help you try to find one ! Drugs will not fix anything - and next it will be surgery - maybe that can be avoided

I raced motorcycles a lot when I was younger and crashed pretty much every day. I've smashed some helmets and had many bruises but never broke a bone. Fast forward fourty years or so and I have sold off all of the motorcycles and ride bicycles. Sounds a lot safer right? In 2005 I crashed and broke my hip, snapped the ball right off the femur. I wouldn't let anyone call an ambulance at first because I thought I was indestructable. Just let me lie here a few minutes and I'll be ok. A medical person on her way home from work stopped and pointed out that my right foot was pointing backwards, not a good sign. I had surgery the next morning and they pinned me back together. It took three months to heal enough to go back to work. Last year I was riding down a steep hill at midnight going flat out, probably 25-30 mph and got ambushed by three deer that jumped off the bank right into me. Broke my clavicle, scapula, and messed up my face when I did a face plant on the highway. I learned that old bones break a lot easier than young bones.

it seems that young bones break pretty easy too when subjected to the trauma of a good bike wreck - saw quite a few on the recent tour de france
