My first "real" (i.e., non-kids) bike was a Motobecane Mirage. I bought it in about 1970 or so and had it for several years. I was kind of reckless back then and rode an awful lot. Over time, I had to replace every single component (except for some roller bearings and the seat) on that bike because of damage from accidents. Somehow I came through it mostly undamaged.

I also completely stripped and repainted it one year because the paint had been exposed to too much cold and snow and it all curled up and flaked off. I sold it to my younger brother for ten or twenty bucks but I have no idea what he did with it.

My first bike as a kid was an old narrow tire, single speed coaster brake Schwinn.

I can't remember... Dad keeps telling the story of how I was riding before I could walk decent and then later of how I took the training wheels off a later bike myself. I guess it helped that I spent so much time in the shop as a child. We've added it up to over 20 bikes I've had.... and I just turned 24. lol

The first bike I remember as a kid was my Schwinn Orange banana seat bike with a five speed shifter on the top tube. It got stollen the same year and I ended up with a POS from the local police auction.

The first bike I ever bought with money I earned was a Motobecane Grand Jubilee I must have spent nearly $200 back in 1978 for it. Next one was a Motobecane PRN10 a few years later.

My first bike was a ten speed. My dad bought it for me. It was the most beautiful bike I ever saw. The paint started red in the front and faded to orange then to a bright canary yellow at the back. It was awesome. It was used and had some scratches and a bit of rust but was beautiful to me. Before I got to ride it my dad stripped all the components off of it and painted it flat black. All the parts were in a box and he didn't know how to put it back together so he took it to a shop to be rebuilt. I rode it for a while.

The first bike I ever earned was a Royce Union BMX bike that I got buy selling christmas cards etc.. It was ne of those deals you see in the back of comic books. I wore it out and my dad in his infinite wisdom bought my next bike. It was a Montgomery Wards 3 speed. Huge white bike with white walls. It was fun but not built for jumping and wheelies. I bought my next one a used BMX. built it to my specs, even used the one piece crank from the 3 speed. It took a long time before I could ride it up any incline but on the flats it was the fastest bike in town (once I got it going:D).

I have had many since but those were the ones I remembered most. Someday I am going to build me a bike and do the sunset paint job I remember from my first bike.
