Does anyone know where I can get a solar powered electric bicycle and how far they can go on a day's charge? I would like to be able to go cross country more easily, possibly pedaling during the day and going electric at night or vice versa.

How big of a panel would you need to directly power a bike?

What if you had one and it also can be pushed by wind like a sail?

    Hydrogen Powered Bicycle

Has anyone ever seen the hydrogen powered bicycle before?

I just found out about it:

There is not enough surface area on a bike to make solar power possible.

Grow food with solar power. Eat food. Pedal bike!:)

You could attach it to your pack. I think maybe a body suit would work.

There are also wrist watches that charge themselves based on the movements of your hand...

Yep impossible. They have cars that have large surface area solar panels and the energy from it is enough to run a tiny fan.

This Guy did it with an electric Scooter. The PV panels fold up against the trunk on the back. You should be able to adapt his design to a bike with a larger hub motor.
He's been riding it for his (albeit) short commute and hasn't plugged it in since 2005.

That's cool. Except for the it being a moped part. Otherwise cool.

    That's why I was suggesting a bike w/ a hub motor.

You could also make an electric push trailer with panels that fold out to charge.
that way you'd still have the functionality of your bike while the batteries were charging.

I wonder how much that solar array cost him?

Wouldn't it be more aero with the panels horizontal? Just a little, maybe? Otherwise I'd only go down wind. Great sail.
