You can learn a lot about someone by what they purchase.

Took bike to bike shop because I was hearing a bad clicking somewhere in my crank set area on yesterday's ride. It felt like I was going to torque it off the bike. Took it in and I have a bad Bottom Bracket. So the newest purchase of mine is a Shimano Sealed Bottom Bracket $29.99. View attachment 15051

First of all my bike itself is only a $150 bike and the mechanic at my LBS said I have a cheap ball bearing BB. And what has happened is sand, water, etc has gotten into it and it is no longer efficient. I have about 1500 miles on the bike since November. Mechanic said he can clean it and have it tightened but he does recommend I get a new one. I know the guy personally and trust his judgement.

He also said in the next few months I may need a new crank set as the one I have now has teeth that are wearing and I cannot replace one cog as the crank set is welded (aka cheap) and not screwed together.

Keep the garden hose away from the bottom bracket. Premature failure often is caused by good intentions. I know this may not be the reason for your low end BB failure but it is for a lot of cases.

That's not too far fetched actually since I used it to clean up mud off my bike last week.

I prefer Topeak! The Topeak MTX trunk bag is very spacious and it includes fold out drop down panniers. I looked at the Arkel and liked them too but decided on Topeak because of its ease to "snap" on and off the rack easier than anyone else.

Topeak MTX Trunk Bag and Topeak Seat Bag are in photo.

Finish Line Dry Lube and No drip chain luber! Now it's time to clean my bike and lube up. A fun filled night planned out. View attachment 15166 View attachment 15167

Where did you get the no drip applicator? I was at UBC last week and they never heard of it. Temple Terrace Schwinn doesn't have them either.

John you can't know ALL my secrets! Don't worry, I know you've been looking for them so I picked one up for you as well. I'll bring it when/if we ride this weekend.

I'm working on Saturday unfortunately but put me down for another 50 on Sunday!

I'm off today and was hoping to ride but with this rainy weather and wet roads/paths from last night it's not looking probable.

Jay I usually ride the Upper Tampa Bay Trail since it's right by my house but have been meeting up with John for longer rides. Unless the weather changes that's the plan for Sunday is to ride Flatwoods.

I have ridden suncoast a couple times and need to start riding it more often to take advantage of the rollers. Hopefully you can make it Sunday!

Nice Jacket!

Well I finally understand the true purpose being having good cycling gloves. My old ones did not have any padding in places I needed it to when riding my "Goomah" Scharole Masi. That's my bikes name btw.

So bought a pair of these gloves. I know, I know they're Specialized but if John_V endorses them I'm ok with them. I'll give a full write up on them this week. View attachment 15243 View attachment 15244

Well I finally received my first official cycling jersey!

Unfortunately it is still a couple sizes too small. That's ok. Gives me something to strive for. I hung it up in the closet so I see it every day.

The largest they had was an XXL. It just barely fits at the waist but will take some time since I have a large chest. But in 30 days it should fit perfect.

Good job, Big Lou! Or as they say in Boro Park, "Mazel Tov, bubbeleh!"

Lol, I know. But not Jewish. We just moved there for the free rent.

I'd love to find out what kind of recipes are in that book. I'm sure there are some pretty crazy ones but also some that are very practical.

Couldn't take the old saddle anymore so I upgraded to one with a little more relief.

Selle Italia Max SLR Gel Flow

I now fell no discomfort in the nether regions thanks to this saddle. Just have to put in a few rides to get used to it before it feels perfect.

If it doesn't work out I can return it and get another one with no questions asked.

I guess you'll find out tomorrow if that saddle is going to work for you. Let's hope it does.

Well the Tour de Cure is Sunday so I have tomorrow's ride to find out. If it doesn't work then I can always put the old one back for the metric century Sunday. But Performance put it on the bike and put my bike on a trainer and I rode it for 10-15 minutes. It felt better but time will tell.

I do like the look of those shoes though. I've been throwing around the idea of switching to road shoes from my MTB shoes for the road bike. When I got my new seat fitted, the fitter said my feet tilt outward which results in loss of power. The only way to fix it would be to get road shoes that they can add spacers to. Which they can't do with the MTB shoes. Birthday is coming up in next couple months so we'll see.
