I did my 44 mile ride this morning that took just under 3 hours and I had 76% battery life left. I kill all background apps and wifi before I start each ride. I got very good battery life out of my iPhone 4, as well.

I gotta warn you John. Everyone that I know who had an iPhone 4 that upgraded to 5 were very disappointed by the battery life of the newer phone (thank Apple and their obsession with thin phone). It's ironic because I don't know of anyone that complained that their old iPhone was too thick and needed to be thinner but I have heard plenty of complaints about the short battery life of the iPhone 4 so what do they do, make the new phone thinner and reduce the battery life even more...genius.

Forcing their users to turn off everything to get enough battery life is not a good solution in my opinion.

I have a iPhone 5s and, knock on wood, the battery life is not too bad. I can do 44 mile rides and still have 50% battery remaining. Granted I do use Bluetooth HRM and Speed and Cadence Sensors. So for rides of 66 miles or more I carry my battery backup, which weighs nothing, which can refill to full battery life once. More than enough for a century. I hope, since I haven't done one yet.

I got a new Samsung S4 a few months ago, and was going to use it to track my exercises too.
Got myself the apps, there is an app for that. Runtastic pro for running and biketastic for...bikes.
I found out...I could care less. For my daily ride or run, I ride mostly the same courses, so I want to know how far, fast, and long, really no other info is needed, on a daily basis

The battery life for the S4 was ok, not great, but ok.
My phone was using about 5 to 7% battery per 1/2 hour. This was with all normal functions running and the music player also going.

I no longer use the phone for tracking. I got a very cheap garmin 610 watch, oh my cheap! 96 smacks, I use it now.

This phone stuff is a Catch 22 for me as I really didn't need to upgrade. I'm currently using a Sigma PC15 wristwatch style HRM, a Cateye Double Wireless for speed and cadence, and Cyclemeter for GPS and stats. The HRM and Cateye were being used before I got my iPhone 4 and started using Cyclemeter. I don't particularly want to spend the money on a Garmin if a phone app does the same thing. Since I take my phone with me on every ride, there is no point in having a Garmin to duplicate the process. I agree that you shouldn't have to turn everything off in order to use a cycling app, but the other alternative was to stay with the iPhone 4 and not be able to use any of the fitness and cycling hardware that's on the market; which only work with the iPhone 4s or 5. I've also found that the apps needed for some of these products only work with iPhone so getting an Android based phone wouldn't work if I wanted that particular product. The only thing, so far, that I miss about my iPhone 4 is the case. I've not yet found a case for the 5c that slides into a belt clip like my 4 does. Not too keen on keeping the phone in my pants pocket.

Just picked this up today, a 12-25 cassette to inner mix with my pre-existing 11-28 cassette. Was looking for a 15 tooth and a 17 tooth cog so I found the 12-25 set has both and it's the same brand I'm running now, so I can flip flop and in Ed change the cogs where I need them.

Running same cassette on my touring bike with 46/36/24 up front....

I have been running 11-34 X 48/36/26 on my touring rig for 5 years now.

I like the low range ability, and with my wheel and crank setup, it is very versatile in mid range as it clusters around 3.0 gain ratio very nicely. The steps between gears is also fairly consistent at 12-14%.

This also yields a useable range of 11- 13 gears clustered in this fashion,

I have to say that I hardly ever employ the high range anymore. I opt to plod along at higher cadences and lower speeds for MUCH longer distances nowadays. This has caused me to consider changing the front chain rings and crank assembly to a Schlumpf dual range geared crank...
At least I would like to, but holy bejeebers that thing is pricey! (about $700)

Hey Lou,

How did your wheel work out. Just finished my first 10 miles on the new rebuild and we rode over some pretty rough country roads and a couple drainage dips. Hit the dips at close to 28-29 mph and it stayed true and no spoke breaks. So you might want to check into the triple butted spokes if you break another one.

I went and paid half down on a new Giant TCR Espoir 24 for my oldest boy. He will be able to tip toe stand over it for a little while, but should grow into it quickly and it will last him until he is about 5 ft tall. It is available November 1st, but orders are coming in quick and I wanted to secure one for me.

Finally gave up and installed the seat post head parts to help keep my saddle nose at a good attitude. It would nose down just enough to be noticeable and annoying. It would only over the bubble in the level from the front to rear but I could always feel, crazy!

I would think if your saddle wasn't level, you'd be the one with the bad attitude, not the saddle

Did you check to see if your garage floor was level at that spot? My garage floor is slanted quite a bit so that any water or other fluids will drain out the door. When I had my new race shop built I had them pour the floor level so that it wouldn't take very much to level all the machine tools.

Good point! I've never honestly checked. I will just say that it's consistent at the very minimum. I mean I check it in the same spot in my garage, just by coincidence really, and it's close to my tools and workbench If it's off I'm at least consistently off
